Not really inovative..but they are my nest boxes. I painted the inside of the boxes Chocolate Brown to make the boxes appear to be a little more shadowy and dark to draw the birds into the boxes to lay their eggs.
From the inside of the coop, the effect is just right.
Maybe not the most creative but I built mine from old scrap lumber which resemble boxes used over 100 years ago. My great aunt had boxes just like these in her barn. Here I show two boxes each located in different sections in my barn. I use one for bantams and the other for my bigger standard chickens. The first one is made from old barn lumber and is extra heavy! It's also on legs and is very portable to be moved or cleaned very easily. Takes two people to move it as it probably weighs around 150 lbs. They might not be the most fancy looking but they work!!
Pharmgirl, I'm not sure if I'd want them sleeping in them all the time at that young a age. They maybe should be using a roost, perch or the ground at the moment. I don't know once they get older if they would still sleep there and never think of the boxes to lay in? humm...
That's what I was wondering. Maybe I'll put some burlap over them to block them out, they have a roost across the building, they may even be using it I'm not sure. I'll keep an eye on the boxes the next couple of days and see what they're doing. THANKS!!!!
