PLEASE PRAY - Hantavirus

Good info, Jafo, that about explains it! I was scared, and I kept thinking about my babies growing up with no mommy... not the best thing to do when you're sick, I know!

But I'm getting better. We still dont know what I had, I dont suppose it matters at this point...

I was able to feed my animals today, one or two at a time. And I HOPE to clean up the kitchen later on. My MIL has been a lifesaver!

Thank you everyone!

OMG I sure didn't think I'd find anything here and I hate to highjack this thread. But I think I might have it also and have a Dr's appt on Wed of this week. See I've been a long time smoker and quite in June around the 15th of the month and been having a lot of breathing problems also. We have about 120 chickens in our back yard and all food is kept in a old freezer and metal trash cans. But of course the mice fine their left over feed. Also the mice are in our home and been having a hard time getting rid of them as I have two small chihuahua's in the house and scared to put much poison down and using trap's. Hard to get rid of these little pest!

This was an active thread years ago, and Hanta has made a comeback this year, for sure, but I suspect you should actually have your docs check you for Histoplasmosis. There are other threads on it on BYC, and it is a well-known ailment of people who have chickens on their soil in certain parts of the country. It is a vicious respiratory illness, but one can diminish their potential for getting it by always wearing a mask when cleaning coops and doing any work that causes dust to be raised and potentially inhaled.

Please share with your doc that you have poultry. That should cause him/her to run an X-ray, as often, Histoplasmosis shows up on those.

Good luck!

Thank you ChooksChick, I can't believe I've overlooked that. I did find 3 other people that have had upper respiratory infections today. I will come back and let you know what Dr says and look into that on this site.
