This is how she looked for about the last 10 minutes before finally passing
Her waddles/comb turned bright red the last half an hour , while she always had real pale color in her little comb and waddles.
If you are going to have necropsy done, put her in two plastic bags and then refrigerate her. Do not freeze her.
Do you have a place where you woud call for dead wild birds? They might have information as to where you can get a necropsy done.
I am in California and the Dept of Food and Agriculture, Animal Health and Food Safety Services comes and picks up the birds and takes them to Davis, which is a veterinary college. They check for avian flu and stuff like that. Maybe you have something like that in your state.
I am so sorry for your loss. It is amazing how attached we get to the little fuzzy butts.
I am so sorry I know how it feels to lose your favorite chicken. I lost my favorite chick last month she was five months old. and would come when she was called she would even jump up on our shoulders and perch while we worked in the yard.
Just saw your post Suelyn
Thanks !!
Been trying to find something online, but hadn't found anything yet. so thanks.
I put her outside it is SO freezing cold out here that she'll freeze
I hate it , is so unceromonius, but don't know what else to do
OK so I'll take her inside ,have a little fridge in the basement, will put her in there. Hopefully there open tommorrow, Saturday!!
I'm just so sad!!
you try everything and it doesn't seem to be enough
The other one vomiited black stuf when she died, found her in the morning, thankfully didn't have to see her pass away
I'm so sorry, you did everything possible and then some, and are continuing to look for answers, your chickies are VERY fortunate to have you for a Mom.
Yes, this is the horribly BAD part about caring for our animals, it is SO sad when you lose one...
Who would have thought you can get so attached to chickens?!?!?
not me!
Dh thinks I'm crazy even though he said to call the Vet today. But he lost his job 5 months ago and a Vet bill is just not something we can do.
Thanks for all the support!
Thank goodness for this website and people like you all, crazy like me

You know some State universities have a program where they will have their students do a necropsy for you for free or for discount. it is good practice for the vet students and it lets you know whats wrong might be something for you to check into. Try your local colleges and ask them about a necropsy.
