Of course there is nothing I can do for you. Please do not mistake this for not caring. I always hope for the best. Waiting the week until your parents return will probably be difficult, but you have a LOT of souls wishing the best for you. And those of us who are inclined, even offer our prayers.

*Another update* Still unable to walk. I've let her be with the other fowl, since she can still hobble and I felt bad for her being locked up in a barn when she wasn't improving or getting worse. She's been ok, but her loss of strength in one of her feet hampers her abilities to get around, as expected. The very top of her leg continues to be noticeably swollen. Honestly, I'm scared. As much as I want to believe the vets can conjure up a solution, me and my mother have the same thought: she has a high chance of being put down. Just thinking about it brings tears in my eyes; I know it will break my heart like the last time it happened. Now, the problem is when we'd make the decision to take her to the vets to see. We have agreed she would take her and either come back with a duck and treatment or nothing at all. My mother thinks I should wait until I feel it's time. What are y'alls opinions?
 
What if there is something that can be done to help her though? If a vet IS an option Then maybe at least try. I know it's a hard decision but many of us don't even have the option of a vet. If she is suffering then the vet can help her out of her suffering. :hugs

Not sure if anyone's still on this thread, but early this morning, my mother took the duck to the vet before I woke. I knew about this the day before, and was very upset, knowing I might not see her alive again the next day. Just woke up to the news of success! The duck will live!
What had happened was that the duck was bitten by an animal and the bite had become infected. Her swollen leg was the result of pus buildup. Currently, she momentarily resides at the clinic so they can safely remove the pus and keep the infection from reaching her bloodstream, otherwise she wouldn't live. This news made me cry tears of joy. My lil' duckie will live!
 
The issue now is what animal is the convict of the bite. There was no obvious bite marks, so it would have to be something small (or even a bug?!). I suspected it being a rat, since we have them bad around my barn, but we also have many spiders. The largest point of swelling was her upper leg, so maybe a spider crawled up her leg? Would a spider randomly attack an animal?
The next animal I suspect is rats. I've seen and chased off maybe a dozen of rats during my time at the barn. I've caught them slinking into the duck's barn, eating leftover feed spilled. I've heard stories of rats biting chicken feet before, so it's possible.
Regardless, I sure wish to evade this issue again. What should I do? Employ barn cats? Destroy cobwebs? Use rat poison? The rat issue has certainly been uncontrollable even with poisons, that I wish I could just get a cat to deal with them. Suggestions?

this is very possible
i would not use poison but maybe traps where other animals cant get to them
cats if they are smaller than your other birds, or a BB gun
