I'm under the impression that when libraries order the book they get a very significant discount because of their non-profit / govnmt. status.

We'll look into some other options for cases where libraries can't order the books.

So, if the profit is only pennies per book, and libraries get a substantial price break, the author loses, the taxpayer pays. This just seems like a bad deal all around. Much better to get BYC'ers to buy at full price and donate the books to the libraries. Again, there are a lot more feed stores than libraries. You might not want to miss that advertising venue. Make a flyer that byc'ers can download, print out and pin up in their feed stores. You will sell a LOT more books that way. No tax dollars used, targeted audience, direct marketing for 0 dollars. win win win.

It's already in my library system-I checked.

The libraries business is buying and loaning books--why the heck wouldn't you ask them to get a GOOD book on raising chickens in this time when self-sufficiency is the thing to do? They could spend the monies on much worse literature and have.

Many Libraries have "Friends of the Library" groups who contribute books and money to supplement the acquisitions of new books.

I don't know where you live, onthespot, but where I live the library is solely funded by private money. Public Library does not always mean funded with local or state money. Those that are funded with county/city/state money are in the business of buying books local tax paying citizens want to read. I don't understand your issue.

onthespot-
The Corona Library receives money from fundraisers, gifts, and endowments. The Friends of Corona Public Library and the Corona Public Library Foundation are two of the non-profits that set up these fundraisers, etc. and it is all run by private money.
But don't worry, I'll be donating my copy to the Corona Library when I'm done with it.

M library can't order this year due to lack of funds, private funds - no tax dollars spent in our VOLUNTEER run library, but I will be buying a copy for them myself. I usually donate tons of books to them so that more people in this little town can have access to decent reading since there are no other libraries in the county.

Way to go, KDbeads .

I wonder how may libraries got their own copies that way.
I donated a lot of books to my local library before I moved. It is a great and positive way to support the community!

That's a very nice offer that you peeps are making to donate the books directly. I'm trying to work with the publisher to see how we can make this as inexpensive and easy as possible.

BTW, if you do buy a book and donate it, are you allowed to put a note saying "Donated by BYC member xxxxxx" ? That would be so cool to meet peeps that are in your area and have them join our community and say hello.

I'm going to deliver one to our local library and see if they will let me do that.

I voted no. Only because the book cost 19.95 at a book store. And it cost 19.95 for members here. Plus you get a years membership to the Golden Feathers club. Plus my part of my property taxs go to the Library. They can purchase any book they want. I'm all for it.
And that's my opinion. So There!

Our library's here WANT book recommendations. They have big signs asking people to tell them what books they want, slips of paper and the drop in box. They fund raise privately and buy based on borrowing patterns or requests. If you search for a book your search string is saved for their consideration too. They want to know what interests people and they want to have it available.
