Please say a prayer for hubby, Steve

Steve had his primary care doctor appointment this afternoon. He got the work over. Doctor said it is severe psoriasis. Has to fast 10-12 hours and have blood tests done again before the next appointment. Blood pressure is high (stage 2). Did a EKG said it was normal but it does show a congenital condition that will have to keep an eye on. Put him on a blood pressure medication and a water pill, and a ointment for the psoriasis. Not to take long hot showers, apply ointment on damp skin will hold in the moisture. Keep the dermatologist appointment and come back in 2 weeks. He sees the dermatologist on the 19th and primary on the 20th. So now we know what he is dealing with.
Edit: Forgot this...Dr told Steve he was a unique case.

Good to hear you now have a diagnosis. I can totally understand how he’s feeling, I’m a sufferer too. A severe outbreak is not pleasant at all. Both physically & mentally.
I can recommend wheat bags out of the freezer to stop the itch. The cold numbs it and I find it works well at soothing.
Not sure what you will get from dr but fingers crossed for some good steroid cream to get it under control.
Although there is no cure there are things that can be done to manage the condition. Mine never fully goes but in general it’s under control with various steroid creams & regular moisturising.

Has Steve had a strep infection at all recently? As psoriasis is an autoimmune disease infections can trigger a severe outbreak. Stress is also a big trigger.
Another thing to look out for is psoriatic arthritis. Please do ask him to keep an eye on that.

Please do tell him that there is light at the end of tunnel with this. It maybe a tad bumpy along the way but with correct management it can & does get better :hugs

Blood pressure is often high when the body is under stress like this. :barnie

If he hasn't had issues in the past hopefully it is only temporary and will resolve when this outbreak does. :fl

I don't know anything about psoriasis... so I asked Dr. Google. This link was very explanatory...

Glad hubby at least has some answers and hopefully a path to relief and recovery. :thumbsup

Thank you Lord! :woot
His blood pressure has been above normal but was acceptable. Kept a daily record of it for a week like we were told to do. Dr said his average was a dangerous level and did a immediate EKG. Put him on Blood pressure pill and a water pill, is to take once a day. He does smoke, and is going to quit. Writing out family medical history really opened his eyes. Lots of heart problems in the history.
Dr. said it was plaque psoriasis. Told him no long hot showers and to put the ointment on with the skin still damp. That will hold moisture in. Thanks for the article. I read that one last night. Read a lot of articles on it.
I really do appreciate everyone's support. Not having family close is hard during these times.

Thank You for the words of encouragement and helpful tips. Will look for wheat bags for him. Stress is the biggest one.
The ointment that was prescribed yesterday is Clobetasol Propionate Ointment USP, 0.05%. (For dermatologic use only. Not for ophthalmic use.).
Steve said Thank You, he said more like high speed bumps :gig. Sense of humor still intact.
Edit: Forgot to answer Strep infection question. No he has not had a strep infection. Hadn't been sick, rash on foot that PA prescribed yeast infection medication twice. Then it was like it spread like wildfire, dried skin out so bad it was cracking and bleeding. Doctor said that the yeast infection medication could have caused a skin reaction, that is a side effect.

If you can sew even just a little bit, there are several how-to directions and videos on YouTube that show how to make a microwave heat bag (some use wheat, some use rice or corn).

I'll do that. Definitely sew, have made pleated front drapes for the motorhome window and love to make quilts.

You are both more than welcome, do know you are not alone.
A sense of humour is a good thing when dealing with this!

Clobetasol propionate 0.05% is a good start. It is very potent though so should only be used for a short a period as possible. You may also find he may need to change creams too if they stop having an affect. But I’m sure all this will be explained.
I have 3 different kinds at the moment depending on how things are.
Betamethasone dipropionate 0.064% - Potent
Clobetasol propionate 0.05% - Very potent
Clobetasone butyrate 0.05% - Moderate

Also a good moisturiser is “Cetraben” Not sure if you can get that in the US?

Then from what I read and watched, a wheat bag will be a piece of cake for you!
Will take longer to set up sewing machine than to sew the pack. :lau. I have made rice packs before, wasn't thinking. Thanks for the reminder, dang it Julie sew it :gig. Old towels make great material for them.

The white and blues quilt I made for my father. The Browns with matching throw pillows made for Steve's brother. Did them for Christmas a few years ago. Over sized kings with double batting inside, real warm.
