Then you shouldn't be living in an apartment.

Sorry, this is like when my cousin was furious at someone for getting mad at her autistic son for screaming and panicking around dogs. My first question was 'what the heck were you doing taking him to a dog park?'

Also, it's incorrect. I've known quite a few hard of hearing kids and deaf kids and they were all perfectly capable of learning not to scream around others. I had horrible ear infections as a kid and spent months at a time hard of hearing and on one occasion, completely unable to hear. Even if you can't hear the resulting noise, a whisper and a shout feel different in one's throat and it is possible to estimate the volume of your voice that way.

If the "noise" exceeds the rental agreement then she has a right to live there and expect the problem to be dealt with. She shouldn't have to move.

Absolutely! I raised two kids. Yes, they make noise, but a parent should make every effort to minimize the burdon on their neighbors. If it's a one year old with a fever and an ear infection, there will be screaming, but it's temporary. If it's a 5 year old that doesn't want to go to bad and throwing a tantrum, it's correctable. Saying that somebody should move if they don't like loud neighbors is what's really rude. I think that the OP should talk to the neighbor or the landlord about the noise. If that doesn't work, consider calling the police. The OP rented the apartment with the understanding that it was to be her QUIET home. I hope it all works out.

I used to live next door to a family with 2 kids. The whole family was deaf. They were lovely people and great neighbors. The kids were both well behaved quiet little girls. They were a joy to around and not loud at all.

Hey I was thinking the same thing ........Chickens where??? anyway When some of us were growing up a nickelodeon was another name for a jukebox and most of the shows on Nick at night were on TV for the first time, like Andy Griffith and Lucy etc.

I DO feel sorry for today's parents. So many are afraid of disciplining their kids because they don't want to be turned in for child abuse, yet so many REAL abusers are protected. Actually, I would like to see more mothers like the one in "Malcolm In The Middle." I especially like the episode where Reiss was being picked on by his history teacher, Malcolm took his test for him, and his mother was ready to sacrifice Malcolm to save Reiss, since she knew he'd end up okay anyway. I raised daughters: all three are polite and gainfully employed (even the one that is a Senior at the U of I)--one is a real saver, but she won't let me tell how much is in her account.

Okay, I don't believe that any child is a brat. It is not there fault how they are raised like you said that is the parents fault. So I can't believe that it would be the child's fault. No child especially 6 is going to completely ignore there parent and do whatever they want. So I do still disagree with the child being a brat. I do agree with it being somewhat controllable that the parent should do something to stop the yelling. But the child is not always gonna be quiet and you have to realize this in an apartment. When you move into an apartment there is gonna be noise no matter what. Some of it is controllable while there is some that just isn't. You have to be able to let the child play too. As long as it isn't an all day scream fest I see no problem. But if they are not English then maybe they don't understand and they are used to letting there kids act in this way. Not every child listens as good as the next child either. I have 4 and they all have there own little attitudes. I am also not taking any sides on this story. As I am not there and do not know what exactly is going on. I just have to say that it is not the child's fault. Even at age 6 they are still very young. If the child was 9 or 10 I would say that they would know better. Maybe the child has ADHD a behavior problem. In this case it is very hard to make them listen. Just because I am putting in my two cents doesn't mean I am be a defensive mother. No child should be called a brat though. We are not supposed to be calling kids names. I am not trying to be mean but this is what I believe. Just as others have there own beliefs. Everyone is allowed there own belief. Sorry If I have offended anyone for my beliefs.

I baby-sat a five year old kid. I knew even then there was something up. His brother (and his sister, who came along later) were both good kids. His mother was a decent mother. But something was off with that kid.

Usually, it's the parent.

But sometimes, it's the kid.

I wouldn't call him a brat though. That's not a strong enough word.

It's slightly harder than with a neurotypical kid. But, as I already mentioned, I have experience with kids with ADHD, and with Autism. I would certainly not describe it as 'very hard' to make them listen.

But if they are not English then maybe they don't understand and they are used to letting there kids act in this way.

Actually, people who speak English are some of the most lax parents in the world. Most other cultures have better behaved kids in general.
