Please sign petition against GMO Alfalfa need 10,000 singatures

I have to rebuy seed for the types of wheat and corn I like due to cross-contamination from my neighbor's fields already. :::shrugs::: Genetic modification is just a faster method of the selective breeding we've been doing for years.

Unlike selective breeding, GMO takes genes from one species and inserts them into a different species. Selective breeding occurs within a single species, or several very closely related species. It is not fish genes in strawberries or tomatoes. GMO takes species that cannot cross breed, and "breeds" them with viable offspring. Most cross species breeding generally results in sterile offspring. Because only a few genes are changed, the reproductive system in GMO crops is not compromised. Much different than selective breeding.

Sorry. I don't see what all the fuss is about. There is simply not enough information given on the site to make even a halfway intelligent decision. I don't see anything wrong with genetic engineering anyway. But then I am old enough to remember when people were having a fit about artificial insemination.
