I'm excited to hear your success story. Gives me something to look forward to. And how rewarding knowing you "hatched" a thriving boy. This is all a hobby. Started out with just a "few" chickens, and now . They are all pets!! Or something like that. Petting is not one of they're strong points, so basically they are allowing me to feed them.
The little girl, I learned to vent today lol, is doing wonderful. Up, walking, eating and drinking.
This is very fortunate! I am glad to hear that she is doing well!! As hard as it may be, it is ultimately best to leave the chicks alone when they are hatching. If they are strong and healthy, they will get out of it. If you assist, you could end up heart broken or even worse- prolonging a chick's suffering.. I must say that there is some success to assisted hatch, you just have to be careful with it. I actually assisted one that hadn't made any progress for a whole 24+ hours, and so like you, the motherly instinct kicked in, and I was in there helping her get started. Thankfully, she's made it out the rest of the way on her own.. almost 2 weeks later, she is thriving!
I love happy endings, hope she continues to do well. If you think she needs a little boost, you could get her Polyvisol infant drops(no iron) and give her 2 drops on her food 2 or 3 x a day.
