Please stop me!!!

Further explanation to my situation.

A year ago I had over 40 birds--4 guineas and 3 roosters included--but a fox got a couple over the summer, a family of coons figured out how to access my coop and before I eliminated them and their entry cost they me another 8 birds. Then between Thanksgiving and Christmas a weasel and mink got in and kill all but the guineas, roosters, 3 Austrolorps, a Silver Lace Wyandotte and a brown leghorn. Apparently the modus of operations was to catch the hens on the nest so all I lost were layers. The chicks I ordered(all pullets) are to replace the flock while the 6 TCS chicks were to give us some midsummer eggs until the rest got laying. So numbers-wise it isn't something I'm not used to. However, I also turned 80 last fall and, while I'm in good shape for the shape I'm in, not sure how long I want to keep doing this.
Morty, I was all ready to talk you out of it. I had the hardest winter full of pain. I meant to tell you I actually take drugs for OCD and it cut my flock in half ! hahaha Then I read your age. 80 WOW My DH is 81 and I encourage him to do everything he possibly can to keep going. :oops:

I am legally blind laundry list other issues 58 now but adjusted to my lack of vision in the last 5 or 6 years
For years one of my best friends in the tropical fish hobby was legally blind since youth. He kept tropicals--large ones--and was considered one of the experts in the field until he died in his 70's. No problem. Any disability is only as much a deterrent as you let it be.

Age is a number. Aside from a yearly physical I stay away from doctors and hospitals--they can kill you. I figure when I've filled my purpose on this side of the pale, I'll move to the other. In the meantime I'll keep busting chops and trying to keep my former students straight--a never-ending process it seems;

But the devil on my shoulder has to add... “Unless of course you want to add another separate brooder for new babes? You could double your brooding capacity & have even MORE chickens!”

OK Krist902, you talked me in to it. My 3-week olds were too crowded in the brooder box anyway so I moved them where a 100-watt light is enough then cleaned the brooder. Hadn't procrastinated long enough so TSC still had the same breeds--looked like in the same number-- and picked up 3 Brahams and 3 Austrolorps. Only problem the Brahams were light and white chickens don't seem to last long for me when they free range.
