I don't think having expectations of chicken longevity is realistic. There are far too many variables at play. Breed generalities, individual genetics and temperament, diet, excersise, exposure to pathogens, stress management, predation risk. Let's face it, no living being on this Earth is getting out of here alive and absolutely no one knows when they are getting their ticket punched.I’ve read so many things about lifespans. I have two red comets who are about almost 4 yrs and a red sex link who is 10 mos. My red girls haven’t laid in three-four months and it was sparingly when they did. They always stop laying each winter for months at a time. (Diet has lots of protein!) I don’t care if they ever lay again. They’re my pets and I love them and they can live out their non-stressful life being happy in my backyard. I know lifespans can vary widely, but what’s a good general rule?
