Definitely cockerel. Cockerels will have wider white barrs. Also looks like someone may be plucking his feathers.
He had a very bad case of pasty butt the first week we had him. Couldn't get it to soften up with water and petroleum jelly, so unfortunately had to clip it out after 3 days of trying. Thought we were going to lose him, but he's come back strong.

Nevermind, looks like there's a spur bud starting so that pretty much confirms it 😭

Pullets get spur buds too. And spurs don't usually develop early enough to be useful for sexing chicks. You could check your pullets--they probably have spur buds about the same size.

I'm not sure whether you have a cockerel or not: looks like a "maybe" to me right now. Does "he" have a much larger/redder comb than the others?

My other 5 of the same breed are week and a half to 2 weeks older, and I'm seeing no sign of spur bud development. The only other one who is showing a bud is my Cream Legbar that I know for sure is a cockrel. For being younger than my other pullets this one's comb does seem to be larger.
