Please tell me this isn't a rooster!!!

How old? I don't see spurs but it is hard to see the saddle feathers but it doesn't look like rooster feathers in this shot. Hope you have a hen

I had one I swore was a hen for weeks. Although spur bumps and vent check told me otherwise, I apparently decided to believe in body shape and comb/wattle size. Sure enough, as soon as I went out and bought two roosters, He-She-It developed roostery saddle feathers and grew longer legs. I'm expecting It to crow any day now.

Combs vary by breed as well as sex, so they're iffy indicators.

I usually go by hackle and saddle feathers, and a few other things that vary by breed.

In this case, the pic is fuzzy and with no age listed, it's darn near impossible to tell for sure.

Looks like a hen to me - without the age though I can't say for sure. It has no pin feathers on the saddle area - I'm just now learning all this - I have 3 hens that turned out to be roos and those pin feathers on the saddle are a dead give away!

Okay, it is a black astralorp. I was told at the beginning of June that my new pullets were about 16 weeks old, but when I posted pics on here, I was told that they were not near that old. I have 3 out of 8 laying now. This one does have a very large comb compared to the others, so I'm just wondering.
