Please tell me what these are or why they have blackish combs!

Some breeds will have darker colored combs until they get to laying age when their combs will start to turn red. I have had several birds like that. Here is one at about 16wks:

The two black ones you posted look like my Australorps, and they both look like girls to me. Out of the last batch a friend and I split (last summer) we were convinced that 4 out of 6 were roos because their combs and wattles developed early. Long story short only two of them were (and very nice roos too) and out of the 3 hens I got one is now point of lay and one still has the blackish comb like yours. The third one is somewhere in between. I'm sorry you lost your old flock, but happy you decided to jump back in the pool

Oh good! I'm glad the black combs are normal. It makes them looks so odd now, but I'm glad they'll grow out of it.

I am happy to hear that they look like Australorps. I have always wanted some. They are so pretty when the sun hits their feathers.

Anyone know about the Brahmaesque chicks?

The whole lots was sold to us as "dark brahmas" which clearly 10 of them aren't even 1% Brahma.

Are the other's look only partial or full?

The first updated pic looks like a rooster and so does the last one. The two in the middle look like hens. My australorp hens had black combs when they were young too.
