please think good thoughts for my cat - new update: OK :)

Yay, I'm glad Mojo ended up all right after all! These types of scares just make you more grateful for their health and appreciate their companionship all the more. I hope Mojo has lots of healthy days ahead of him!

Pat, I don't know what you feed your Mojo, but I do know some cats are sensitive to seafood. Maybe he has the fish wiggles? Some canned food even has artificial flavorings. Sorry, I've become a compulsive label reader after the vet switched our cats to canned food.

Knowing cats, he may just be messing with your mind.

I hope he's all good, I lost my big fluff ball recently to congestive heart failure. I'm glad your guy had a good chest x-ray.

Yes, I think some of his past health issues are allergy-related, and now that I have had more time to reflect and observe, I think his current problem is probably allergic too, I think he just got so crazy about feeling so itchy that he starts running around more than his snurfly breathing can support. We have him on the lowest-allergen food the vet knows of, but I can't guarantee he didn't find something that one of the kids dropped, also ONE of the cats licked a divot out of one of my cheeses that was sitting out to dry with the 'cat protector' knocked ajar, a couple days ago.

He is still really 'not right' -- very very licky and sort of over-caffeinated seeming, only wants to sit on hard cool smooth surfaces, occasionally runs across the room -- but vets are all closed today for the holiday. I am staying home while my DH takes the kids to the zoo, so I can keep an eye on Moodgie. Tomorrow morning I will see if his regular vet is in, or at least talk again with the one we saw yesterday, because on reflection I do not think that the treatment prescribed is really the best way to go. I know vets just love being disagreed with by clients

but I would really like to talk about this and try what has worked for his itchiness and intestinal problems in the *past*. (His diarrhea is back too, and he is still not eating).

But at least he is way better than when I rushed him into the clinic 24 hours ago.

Aaarrrrrgh,

Pat

Pat, I recently had a problem with a cat not eating. I finally started getting my cat to eat by putting non flavored yogurt on his mouth, he'd lick it to get it off and then he'd be hooked and he'd eat it off the floor after. He didn't eat on his own for a while, I had to convince him to eat by putting it on his mouth, but once he got the flavor he'd start eating it. To get some real food into him I crushed up his dried cat food into crums and put some into the yogurt. After giving him that twice a day and increasing the food amount in the yogurt, he started eating the dried food. He's now eating normally and I can relax.
Good luck and I hope this helps!

my cat simba came from the field with his nose and eyes clogged up it looked like he was running for his life he just layed there in the shade and it looked like he was dead but he was still there so we put a fairly large dish of water in front of it he cralled inside of the bowl with his head a bove water but we lost him i am glad your cad is doing better

Pat, prayers for Mojo here- I hope things work out- having lost two of my own "best cats in the world" over the last two months, I don't want anyone else losing anybody!!!! Tell the kitty he is loved and prayed for!

Wow--how shocking that must have been to see! He must have been dealing with something very serious. I'm glad you spotted him and got the chance to offer help before he died. Then you could know you tried, plus he knew you cared and were trying to help him

Pat, how is Mojo doing?

I had a cat with allergies. When she was very old, diabetic and on a restricted diet we found out the leftover milk she had been getting all her life was the main allergen. Bad owners!!! 'Course she lived to 19 1/2 so it didn't bother her that much.

He's not so good today, all eh wants to do is sit atop the kitchen cabinets and sleep

I took him back to the vet this morning so I could see one of the vets who's dealt with his not-eating problems before, which was useful, but it remains to be seen how it will work. I have only *just* given him the appetite-stimulant pill, though, so the next few hours or overnight will show whether he's going to start eating from that or not.

Sigh, poor little Moodgie bear,

Pat

Maybe see if the vet would prescribe a steroid like prednisone (though how you'd get it in him I don't know. It's nasty tasting stuff!). It might help with both the allergies and the eating. I know one of the side effects is increased appetite.
Good luck and hugs to you both. It's hard when our fuzzy babies are sick and we can't figure out what's wrong.
