Please vote "NO" do not remove our chickens in Hollywood FL THANK YOU

Maybe the owner needs to invest in a chicken tractor. That is sad that he may have to give up his birds.

It seems I read something on another post about this family when they had goats. I think his chicken coop is a little small for 15 chickens and clipping their wings should stop them from being on the neighbors fence. I would like to see what the judge says.

I see no proof that they are legal. Just because you call them pets does not make them fall under the small pets part of that law. They are livestock. Also just because other people are getting away with having chickens does not mean your neighbor is not in the right for asking for there removal. There are fines so a law has been broken. Downplaying it an refusing to pay them will not win you supporters.

Now this is just my opinion. I don't know a thing about this story but people everywhere are good people. and the fact is that chickens just make good people, better people. Chickens should NOT be legal, chickens should be REQUIRED by law on heaven and on earth and in every yard, pasture, apartment courtyard, and inner city balcony.... how far we have fallen.

You said that they're totally legal... but then in the article it says "Hollywood does have an ordinance prohibiting fowl and poultry in residential neighborhoods, and the Kohns face fines of $250 a day, which have added up to $146,000." but the reporter didn't quote which ordinance or whatever says so??

Looking at Hollywood FL's website if you search for Fowl it'll bring up a list of documented violations... quite a few actually... viewable here http://hollywoodfl.org/ViolationSea...s=&FolioNum=&Neighborhood=&ViolCode=92.02+(A)

The violation code is listed is the 92.02 (A) that you mentioned in your post, then under violation description it says "Keeping of fowl or poultry in City limits prohibited; Breeding of pets prohibited"... keep trying to find a full copy of the codes but it's not wanting to bring that up... probably my crappy DSL, but if the quoted bit is a direct quote from it as it appears to be, then it's pretty clear that fowl are banned... and that a lot of folks get them anyways. If that's the law, then that's what the judge has to go by... but if you want to see it changed, then that list of other folks who've been busted might be a place to start looking for allies. The address of the violation is right there on that page, but if you click Details it'll also give you the owners name...

Of course now I'm going to have to go check MY city's page because the thought of my full name and address being broadcast over the internet kinda freaks me out.

But even if the law allows for fowl, there are laws against nuisances too. Just as dogs are allowed, but aren't allowed to run all over everyone else's property a judge would likely think that the same should apply to pet (assuming you're arguing they are pets not livestock) chickens too. You wouldn't want someone's dog to be allowed to wander your yard, harm your birds, poo all over... so give your neighbors the same consideration. That's how I feel about it anyways, so mine are in an aviary... but it's also for their protection... between the neighbor's dogs, possums, skunks, raccoons, snakes, etc it'd be downright negligent of me to let them run loose.
