pleease HELP! Finally trying to fix my Sportsman..OMG the turner!

If you just set the eggs then I think if you took them out you will be ok. Take the back and top off and look then you can get a better idea of what is going on and the turner mechanism will be easily accessible. I did that with mine. I tool a razor blade to carefully cut the gasket when I took off the top.

I didn't even see a gasket.

What gasket? I'm not even sure what I need to do here.

I transfered some of these eggs and have others in the bator I was using. Some have been cooking a few days and I don't want to leave them all out very long. I know they have to come out to work on this though.

Is this gasket something that slides onto the bar that holds the arm?

Kim,

Where exactly is the screw that came loose? Could it be that the wood around the screw is not holding it anymore? If that is the case, you can get a larger screw to hold it, or you could try something to fill the hole and then screw it back into it.

Don't worry about the gasket, cmom is talking about taking the cabinet apart to find the problem. So you don't have to worry about that.

Can you take a picture of it?

I hate to take those eggs in and out too many times. The incubator in against a wall and wedged between a bakers rack and cabinet. I want to get in there once and then walk away. LOL I'm paranoid about having that many eggs all over the kitchen and getting them knocked down. I had to be careful with some of the trays. Most of the eggs I set should be in bigger ones and I don't have any access to more egg cartons right now. I'm going to have to set them out on the table and floor on towels. Kitchen lacks counter space.

But the screw is called something else. It's a small threaded piece that goes though a hole in the arm and fits up agaisnt the flat section of the bar that comes out through the turner motor. It has to be in place to hold the trays in the right position for them to turn at the correct angle. It goes in, it fits tight, and then it just drops out. I'm hand turning eggs.

where's the pass out from exhaustion smilie?

I've seen the name for the threaded piece. It's not called a screw. It's short, straight, threaded and you tighten it with a ....??????? omg I do know my tools...............fits inside of the piece to tighten....omg I wish my brain worked.

Being this old I just hope someone knows what I'm talking about. I'm clumsy and I don't want to play with all those eggs. The turner is turned off for now, but I need it to work. I have to be a few places over the next couple of weeks and I don't want to miss turning.

Maybe there is supposed to be something over the bar that extends from tthe motor???? I wonder if that would help that piece stay put. Maybe like one of those rubber things from the bottom of a chair? Maybe that's what I need to know. Is there something besides that tiny threaded piece that holds the arm on the bar?

Ok on page 7 of this, it shows the turner.

Could it be a nut and bolt, you would use a socket or wrench to tighten it.

Oh I saved that in my files the other night when I was trying to figure out the heating element.

My machine is prehistoric compared to that one.

See the bar that goes up to the turning mechanizim? Mine has a bar that comes out almost exactly where the end of the line from #17 sits.

The bar to the right of that diagram goes straight up and it's flat. Wow I like that. LOL

The one on mine goes up, has a slight turn to the left at the top and has a split section at the end. Each end has a hole and those slip over the round bar that comes at where #17 is pointing to. Where that piece is screwed in in the pic.

Then there is one flat section on the protruding bar and the piece with the holes in it has a piece of metal that has a tiny hole that the threaded piece goes into. It's supposed to keep it from turning all the way around.

Did that make since?

What I'm thinking is, there must have been something that slid over the extending bar, to keep the other bar from sliding off. I'm thinking that that bar is probably off of the rod that I slid the holes through and that the threaded piece is supposed to hold.

Maybe there was a gasket or band or cap or something that went over the end of the protruding bar to keep the main piece from coming off and that's why the threaded piece falls. The motion from the turner is letting the bar slide from the rod and when it does the threaded piece falls and that's what I hear before the damage is done.

I'm going to find some things that I think might work. Don't know what yet, but I'm going to look around. I think if I can find a way to hold it on I can keep is from sliding off. Maybe even use a piece of PVC and extend the bar against the back so it touches when I put it back on and it stays on the rod.

arrrggggg Bill would have rigged this up in seconds.

Oh and I was thinking of a hex key!!!!! Just came to me. LOL

Then if you look on page 6 I have the No. 0246 trays. I only have one of the No. 0248 trays and the eggs are more secure in that one. I made a large one for the goose eggs. Just bent hardware cloth into Vs and made some S hooks. Then I hooked long rubberbands to the S hooks and the band holds them steady. I want to make it look better, but kind of proud of myself to use what I had.
