SO....Brutus is postal.......HHHEEEEE must be a roo. Gotta be a roo or just crazy and if you have a truely crazy chicken or other animal...................................................................look at the mean roo postes. He is a chicken and there is genetic factors that kind of are against him/her. I ordered 30 and got 31 and all 31 are still living after 5 weeks no one is postal...sorry crazy......sorry I don't know the pc for crazy..... everyone cohabitates just fine. They love acorn squash, and just learned about boss. Busy work.
 
We had a banty Cochin who was like that to the extent that we sexed it male based on behavior: Mr. Stabby.

MS. Stabby is now full-grown and broody about 90% of the time... we underestimated the purpose of the stabby behavior...
 
So when I got up this morning my husband told me that we had lost two chicks. One was the sickly one that I knew wouldn't make it, but the other one had seemed perfectly healthy.... weird. Anyway, it's much better than I thought given the rate they were dying before I got them, so we are still ahead of the game

As far as Brutus, he is together with everybody and doing some eye pecking but not as bad as he was. It's just too hard to keep him isolated. I had a piece of cardboard but they knocked it over during the night like I suspected they might. I do wish that I had some bigger chicks to put him in with so that he would learn a lesson. That's what they had done at TSC, and he managed to survive while he was in with them. Oh well, I will continue to keep an eye on things and keep everybody up to date. Man I can't believe their appetites!!! I had bought a small bag of Manna Pro chick starter crumble, and they absolutely love it. Of course they do, since it's more expensive

It's almost like it's slightly moist and I am sure it is much easier for them to eat verses what they were getting in the store (very dry, big crumble).
 
Update:

So we have lost a total of three chicks, one just this morning.... Not sure what happened, but since all the conditions are right (temp, feed, water, etc), don't think there is much that I can do about it. I had to go out and buy this stuff called Rooster Doctor (I think that's the name) because one of the chicks with feathers on it's toes had gotten it's one foot picked at pretty badly. The stuff is thick and brown and has peppermint and eucalyptus in it. So far, I think it's working because I don't think there has been any more toe picking. So, over all the chicks are doing very well

Good luck I hope the chicks thrive. I don't even like going to our tractor supply because of the way the chicks are taken care of. I do shop at the other farm store there the chicks are in cages with lids or on pallets so kids can't pick the chicks up ect. They are not over crowded they take good care of the chicks. They did say they lost quite a few in the first delivery might have been do to cold temps.
