Pls help! First time incubating eggs in hova bator!!!

Thanks to everyone for their help...I'm sad to say that none of my eggs hatched. I was really bummed...we had a storm while I was at work and apparently the electricity went out for most of the day. I left the eggs in the incubator, but 8 hrs w no heat seemed to take it's toll.

Wish me luck...going for round 2!

Orly29, where abouts do you live...has it been extremely cold there? Eight hours of no power should't have really killed off your entire hatch. How was the temperature and humidity the rest of the time?

janieschicks, how is your incubating going?

Ed

Were there undeveloped chicks in the eggs? or fully developed chicks that failed to pip? or were they clear? I agree 8 hrs will not kill the chicks. You need to find out what the problem was before you start again or you will have another failed hatch. Also if they were shipped eggs there might have been no problem at all but ruined eggs before you even began.

I am located in Texas...the eggs i was tryin to hatch were shipped from a breeder I found online.

I think in Texas you should've been ok for eight hours. As CindyS stated, it might've been a bad bunch of eggs to start with.

Did you crack the eggs open to see what stage of developement the embryos stopped at?

Don't want to highjack this thread but since we are talking about 1st attempts and Hova Bators. I just started some eggs today and was curious about humidity. The outside humidity is 78 percent right now and with no water in the 1583 my humidity is running 60 percent. How do you handle a situation where you have several days of rain and the humidity is sky high?

I'm so thankful for this thread! My family bought a Hovabator 2362, with circulated air and a wafer thermostat this week as we're anticipating some eggs in the mail - today! HOWEVER, the temp. seems to be really fluctuating! I see many other Hovabator owners happy with the constant temps, and am curious why this is happening! For instance, right now the temp is fluxing from 98.4 to 102.0... Is this similar to other people's experiences? The humidity is reading 35%, which seems to be ok... Not sure if our unit is defective? We are hoping for a successful first hatch
