I respectfully disagree, perhaps? I read that Bielefelder chickens are massive. Roosters easily weigh 12 lbs. Doesn't look that big in his picture. He's a Bielefelder.

Like I said, the whole genetics thing confuses me. Thanks for clearing it up! So what do you think of the OP's rooster?Rhodebars are an actual breed not a sex linked hybrid.
Also black sex link roosters are always barred that's the sex linking in the cross.
The sire would not be single or double gene barred. Only the dame would be barred.
Great explanation. My first thought was also Bielefelder.
BSL males are single factored barred. He looks double factored.
BSL males are also most often silver/gold. He looks more gold/gold to me.
I do know Bielefelder are big but hatchery birds are often smaller then they should be and that bird looks young so I was thinking he looked decent size taking that into consideration.
X2He's a Bielefelder.
No doubt shes a he.This is Dotty. We thought Tractor Supply sold us all pullets, but we starting to have our doubts about this one.
Dotty defies everything we've read about the breed. Loud, not docile... and now we're thinking she's a he.

Black sex links are a first generation RIR x BR cross. Rhodebars were developed as an autosexing breed after generations of selective crossing.I'm pretty sure you have a Black Sex-Link rooster, also known as Black Star, Rock Red, or Rhodebar - probably a few other names as well. It's a hybrid made from a Rhode Island Red rooster and a Barred Rock hen. I get a whole lot confused trying to make sense of the genetics and crosses. But it appears that Black Sex-Link roosters can be barred with some red on neck and back, or all black with a red chest. Something I read said it's due to whether the sire rooster had the double gene for barring, or just one gene. I dunno, it's all Greek to me!
Here's a pic I found on this site:
