Plymouth Barred Rock Story

Oh My ..... haha 😄 That's funny. I'm happy to hear that even tho ... You would gladly get another. Mine are all pretty young. So, I haven't seen any 'feisty' behavior. But, I'm always watching.

I have noticed that my Lily (Cream Legbar) is a loner & very independent. She happily does her own thing. She'll cuddle & perch with the group a lot. But, she is content being alone. It's interesting seeing their individual personalities develop.

Thanks for sharing about Big Rhonda. :D
Haha no problem! I love all my hens, even if certain ones are trouble sometimes. Seems like you are the same. I hope you continue to find joy in observing your chickens' behaviors. I never get sick of it! Chickens are a blessing. :)

THANK YOU! It's true, I am thoroughly enjoying everything about raising chickens. I was already a bird nerd, and knew I would enjoy it. But, I'm definitely getting a great deal more out of it than anticipated.

Yes, me as well! I always had birds growing up and loved them, but I am enjoying chickens even more than I thought I would. They are simply the best!

I saw that episode too. However, she is very wrong about Barred Rocks. I have 12 chickens and I am a Newbie. I have 2 Barred rocks, 2 Turkens, and 8 Easter eggers. My Rocks are the most lovable of them all. They come to me and fly on my back, shoulder, even on my head so now I wear a hat when in the coop. If I sit they want to sit in my lap. My Turkens turned out to be bullies and until I figured out who was pulling out the feathers of the chicks, my Rocks would run them off to defend the chicks. I first brought the 2 Turkens and 2 Rocks home and had to wait 3 days for the Eggers. The Eggers ran to the Turkens and Rocks at first, and they ignored them. This one Egger kept insisting on a mother figure and it was my Rocks that took it in. The Turkens were at the top of the pecking order and were bullying so I separated them and now my sweet Barred Rocks are at the top of the pecking order and I have no problems with the Turkens because the Rocks will set them straight. So, I think they are only aggressive when they need to be otherwise they are the best.

I have Barred rocks and I love them..if I could only have one breed it would be them! ( Thank goodness ..that's not the case, can one have TOO MANY breeds? 🤪)

Interesting! I'm not familiar with Turkens. I'll have to look them up.

I had a young Roo that I couldn't keep & my Blk Copper Maran took over the Alpha Hen spot. I was shocked. She was so timid & quiet while the Roo was around. My Merci is big now & still loves me to pieces. When I'm close, but not in the run. She's always looking to try & get to me. I Love it. :love

I couldn't agree more. I have 10 chickies & 10 breeds .... LOL :D
Two Brahmas, a buff & light. So, technically 9 breeds, I guess.

I am still working on the trust too she hops on my lap for treats and stays only for a few minutes now.
Wonderful, keep trying.
Merci, always wants to be on my back. But, she is perching longer on my lap each day. My Speckled Sussex is showing interest when Merci is on me, but hasn't jumped up yet. But, her behavior is showing that someday she will. It's a work in progress.
Good Luck! 🥰
