Plymouth Rock thread!

Well, Jen, I wish I could offer you a critique, but I lack experience in that department, for sure. I am waiting here to hear the results. If I were you, I would PM Ducktang (Jamie) for a good evaluation. He is great about doing that.

Morning all.....

Many thanks to Beth (joletabey) who was so kind as to pick up and transport these home for me from the Ohio Nationals and to Bob Blosl (who arranged all of this), I am now the proud owner of a trio of Columbian Plymouth Rock LF from a stellar flock in Canada. Its been raining here, so I grabbed a couple of quick pix between showers....they had to be coaxed outside so I apologize that they are not posed well, but they are great looking birds. The male is massive, long straight back, nice yellow legs and good color. He also seems to have a very gentle temperament. Oldest pullet (on left in pix) has great type, size and color. Youngest pullet (center of pix) is a little dark, but has great undercolor and should make an excellent breeder. I am so excited to have these.

I'm so glad there's pics of really nice Columbian Rocks here (awesome birds, Scott!). I'm just starting out with the bantam breed and was wondering if I could get some opinions on my cockerel and 3 pullets. They are from shipped eggs I hatched out from Dick Horstman.

Hey, i have some questions for you... I have seen a few pictures of Blue Silver penciled rocks, on the internet... So i am wondering what the thoughts are of starting this project... and How i should do it, if we had Blue rocks in canada it would make the process go by so much better. I have Blue Australorps and wonder about using those, would the draw backs out whight the postives of getting that colour? I would just need the right?

It is not an easy project I researched it at one point and did not go futher. If you have blue rocks and partridge rocks it takes about 3 generations BUT... and this is a big but. You only get a portion just like the black, blue, splash. So you have to breed alot of birds to get the few and they will not breed true since blue is a resessive. So you have to breed alot of birds over and over just to get the the blue partridge birds. If you do not have the space or people to take the chickens you can not use that is alot of culling or birds you are stuck with.
