joletabey, you can have some that look that good. It costs the same to feed one as the other. Just contact some breeders, and breed clubs and go get you some. Once you do it, it is real easy and before you know it, you'll be driving all over the place to get some "to the standard" bred birds.

My goal this year is to join ALBC. I am a firm believer if you are going to call yourself a breeder you should be working to improve the breed. I did DL the Plymouth Rock old standard. I ticks me off to see APA make one book with all the standards and make you buy it like that when most only want one or 2 breeds. They would make more money if they sold them as a indivual breed book. The Rock book of 1914 is loaded with tons of information and pictures. It is free but it is out of date BUT I do not think it is that incorrect except for tail set. I am right here Ducktang? I have not seen the newest SOP on PRs. I know tail set is 45 for males and 40 for females unless that has changed, in the book it is different.

I do follow the club message board and see many are wanting to get back to the older style. I know many, show in local shows are hatchery birds but I have seen a few real nice ones in locals too. I think many shows need to clean up on there judging for it has gotten sloppy in that many do not weigh chickens any more. It is much like the dog ring, who you know and how well preped you are on the animal. Not if the animal truely meets the SOP. It is a shame. I will just stick to heritage breeding and not worry about the show ring.

Halo what year is that SOP just wondering? Last time I saw it posted on the breed board it was 45 and 40. That was 2 years ago. Maybe I read it wrong but I have had others tell me it was right. I am really interested in which is right and what are the differeances between the old one and then new one.

I just looked in the one I bought last year, it's dated 1998 on the cover. Rocks in this years' book are as Kathy said

30 degrees for males and 20 degrees for females

I need to look at the Rock Std that Ducktang posted yesterday and see what it says

Ok I check my source and I read it wrong. The 45 and 40 was before that standard that is posted on the site. In the old book it is 35 and 30. So now it is 30 and 20. Wow have they come down in the tail set over the years.

I also reread the eye color since we have talked about it here and else where on BYC. Red bay is Red with hint of brown. Not orange or yeallow but a true red. I know I have seen it on many rocks from good breedings. My question is how long does it take for the eye to ful turn this color? Is it longer in some lines than others?

I've got some Rocks in the incubator right now, from a friend. She has both white and barred in a mixed group. What color should I get from a white to barred rock mating? I don't know anything about chicken color genetics, but I'm guessing I'll just end up with a mix of whites and barred?
