Plymouth Rock thread!

I think it's time to bring this thread back to life. I've got 16 Stukel line Barred Rock eggs in the incubator from Speckledhen, only on day 3. Temps and humidity are holding perfect. I'll let ya'll know what's happening when I candle on day 10.

Today is lockdown! 7 were definitely developing on day 10 and 2 were inconclusive. After 2 power failures and having to drag the generator up to the house I'm still anticipating some peepage in a day or two.

Oh, no, Ben! TWO power outages?? We haven't had that usual drama this time around, but hatch day is Saturday and there's still time yet. Hoping it won't happen, though. I have only ONE from my BRs in there, belonging to Dottie, though some of the EE's are sired by Rex. Crossing fingers for you! You must have waited a couple of days before you set those since I didn't begin collecting mine until after I mailed your box. Seems our hatch dates should be further apart.

Hi Cynthia - Thanks for your comment on my BR 'newbie' hatch this past
weekend - I've really got the incubating and hatching fever now - esp. since
people seem to want to buy them - anything to help offset the feed cost right?
Oh, and did I mention HOW MUCH DARN FUN IT IS? lol

I hope your hatch this Sat goes very well. I was thinking about you the other
day and wondering if you are missing that handsome fella Rex? Who did you say you sold him to? Wish I could have gotten some of his sired eggs but we weren't incubating then yet.

Take care, Elaine in Ellijay

Hey guys! I am hoping someone can help me. We have been using this website for the last couple of years as we started into chickens, and it has been a wonderful resource. However, since the change over, I can barely use it because it is so slow! And now both of my daughters have decided to do a 4-H poultry project --- and now I can barely use this wonderful resource!

So here is what I am looking for: I need the standard of perfection for the partridge rock chickens. Is there a place online someone can point me to for other breeds standards as well? (I also need the LF Blue Cochin and the Welsummer.)

Thanks for any help you can give me. (I would search this website for it, but it is really tough now that it is so slow!)
http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=Standard of Perfection Poultry AND mediatype:texts Here is a search I did and it pulled up several OLD SOP. I don't think the info has changed much on Rocks. I can't help you with the other breeds, but most of the info is standard for ALL breeds. Good luck!

Well they're due either thurs or fri. I got them at the P.O. on Thurs feb 9th. I set them that night but I think I count day 21 as friday. Anyway they're in lockdown. I could have sworn I heard a faint peep earlier or it may have just been wishful thinking. I really don't expect to see any activity until at least tomorrow night. Fortunately I was home both times the power went out. It's just a pain to roll the generator 200 feet up hill to the house. The temp only dropped 5 degrees before I got the bators going again so I'm sure everything is still fine.

OK guys I have a question on leg color. I have noticed breeding my SL roo that the barred chicks have more yellow legs and the non barred have darker legs. I saw a thread about leg color in the blue rocks and I know it seems to be an issue and it is one I want to correct if I can so any tips? I have not seen any blue rocks with the right leg color... anybody got pics of Dusky legs? I have one little roo that has dark legs but he is not barred. The dam and sire both have more yellow legs, the dams are really kinda green color, but clearly yellow skin on all the birds.

Yard full 'o Rocks owns Rex now. He's in Cartersville. He hatched some eggs he picked up at the same time and will have to wait for those to grow up before Rex has any pure BR ladies, but in a few months, you might zip Scott a note if you want some eggs from the Rexinator. I do miss his handsome self showing off around here, but it's quieter, for sure!

I'm not real sure of what you are asking for, but I'll show you a blue barred with what I think is pretty good leg color, and a pullet that has the typical dark wash on the front of her yellow legs. You can see between her toes the yellow that is the color of the back of her legs..........stan

I just saw this thread and wondered what is the history of the nice barred rock bantams. Greg English has some that look like these. Wonder where you got them from.

The Silver Pencil led large fowl look very nice stunning color. They don't look all that small to me.

I found a scale today as I was cleaning out my barn. Did not think I would be asking this question but have you weighed these birds that originated out of Michigan??"

I don't think you are that far off on them.

If you are a little light or at standard weight you can get them larger in a few years. But if they are at standard weight at ten months should not be a concern. They got very nice color.

Look forward to your reply. Scott did you show your Colombians at Newman?

Do you have that nice pullet from last year matted up you should see some nicer chicks this year than last. bob
