Plymouth Rock thread!

Sure, here she is with her one of her SS and Barnevlder sisters and her Barne Roo in the background, I have to say that her and her 2 SS sisters are my favs!!!! They love to be petted and held, none of my others do, regardless of breed, age, or quality. Also, I need to update my tag line, 1 of the White Rocks and 1 SS turned out to be boys, so they were re-homed and now run free in a green meadow, with lots of bugs and other roos friends, that is actually true, this guy takes any unwanted roos and lets them free range.

DEFINETLY not ready wet, the comb and wattle should be much bigger!

Hi all

I'm so excited to see so many silver pencilled rocks!

Mine are friendly and good-tempered too! I expect the 8 pullets I have will start to lay in mid to late October.

Currently I have: 8 sppr pullets; 1 mature sppr hen; 1 mature sppr rooster; 7 sppr cockerels (for meat); 5 sppr cockerels at my daughters (for meat, but will keep one for breeding next spring); also 2 additional sppr chicks that hatched under a broody hen.

I have a few other Easter egger chickens too: one is the broody (I'm so proud of her - she is part Columbian Rock and beautiful and a great egg layer; she's very protective of her brood, I mean cranky!

Plus 5 other Easter eggers.

Wow, that more than 25 chickens! I didn't expect to have that many

Thanks, so pretty, I really like the white rocks also. I don't think my girl will have the correct body type, she is pretty lean, but I love her just the same. She is strictly for egg and my kids pet.

Correct body type WR are rare. A few folks have posted photos on the Heritage Large Fowl thread. The true bred birds are breath taking.

Quote: Nope I know she is not ready, I am guessing about 4 weeks out. It is just that she is just as red or redder than the SPRs and they are 10 weeks older. Just kind of a shocking observation. Thanks everyone

Your Silver-penciled Rocks from Horstman poultry are a heritage type bird. The WR and Sussex are hatchery/industrial types, they will mature at about 2 to3 months before the heritage types will, always. No comparison betwixt them at all.
