Hey guys, there's a show coming up near me and I was wondering if you think this guy is good to bring. He is still recovering his tail after a dog attack awhile ago and has some flight feather issues and a couple black feathers. What do you think?
Check him off against the local standard.
It would be good experience for you, in any case, and
you should pick up a few pointers from the professionals there.

He looks good aside from his tail, I think his comb is a bit off too. I think it should have five points instead of his 8. I had problems with my Barred rocks tails as well. They just have to go through a good moult! He should do fine though. You'll never know exactly how good he is unless you show him!!
Good Luck!!
Quote: I would have to look at my SOP, but I think if there are more than 3 black feathers (in the same area) they are DQ's too. 1 or 2 is OK you just don't want too many of them.
Barred rocks are the sweetest girls that I have experienced by far. My Belle came running, making the coolest noise and bringing the others with. She was quite the cuddler too. There will never be another like her, but I am going to get another tomorrow. Unfortunately, Belle and my Buff (Blondie) were both killed by two small neighbor dogs and my NH Red (Big Bird) was injured severely. I am still quite traumatized as well as the girls that are left. Wish me luck in finding a suitable "replacement" Barred Rock.
I was given a rooster and hen yesterday.....The lady told me they were barred rocks.....I'm thinking they may be crossed with something else......I'm new at this as my first 10 br pullets are still in the brooder and waiting for the coop to get finished.
Not a great picture......He was giving my wife a run for her money, while holding him!!!
Here is the 10 week old pullet
What do you all think?
Plus, I think my younger pullets must be feathering out.....the white spots on their heads are getting all fuzzy....of course the addition of feathers kind of gives it away too
