Plymouth Rock thread!

Yup. A New Year's chick must eat to stay warm. A Fire Cracker chick has to deal with heat. Most breeders I know pen up in December and break up in May or earlier, for this and other reasons.

My rule has been to begin hatching then too, but most folks don't want chicks til later and by then they're not chicks anymore. What's going on now is broody hens everywhere. Few chicks but they are a pain.

I'm not set up for Breeding pens, but have five coops of five different breeds. BR's, CR's, BM's, EE's and Dels.

How about some photos of your "Rockingtons"...

Sure thing! I call them "Plymouth Orpingtons" LOL. Around the yard the full rocks are 'the blues' and the POs are 'the hybrids'

Dick Horstman does SPPR and don't give up on your eggs, we received some from them last year and the PO never told us they were delivered and they set on our porch for 24 hrs in 20-30 degree weather and we had a great hatch and have some gorgeous birds, we will be hatching eggs soon.

If this was in reply to me, the eggs have already been tossed, the fertile ones (about half) were all blood ring at 7 days after candling. Probably due to heat, but I don't know how you screw up shipping so bad that it takes 4 days to get from CA to WA. I appreciate the referrals but probably am going to sell my SPPR to make room in the pens.

Did you get the one I posted for PEI if so then maybe they would be interested in what you have here and Wynette they need something extra it sounds like in their breedings to work on some color issues it seems

Bob gets folks a little confused with some of his advice on crossing and bringing in new blood (this is a Red thing) as I've said before and gotten good ataboys from it too. IF its not there you have to go out and get it. Like breeds like everytime

he can contradict this too as now he is in pursuit of crossing RCreds with Mohawks. Taboo or no?
