It's totally normal for an older pullet to pick on younger birds. Especially at that age. She is a teenager, trying to be the boss.
My hatchery rocks were always EXTREMELY loud. I loved it. It is the reason I expanded my chicken hobby as much as I did. Dixie was our first Barred Plymouth Rock, and I loved that chicken. She'd talk to me all the time. Tell me how her day was, how she didn't like the new rooster, how it was too cold, or too hot, how her water needed changed and how it was treat time. She was also head hen, so she'd make sure everyone was in order.
She was really bossy until everyone was of laying age. Then she settled down.
I've been attached to maybe 5 chickens total. She was very special.
Cyber, I mean absolutely NO offense, as I simply do not know; but, can you talk about the white fluff at the base of the tail? I ask because this is something I see in Black Copper Marans, and I have been working to eliminate it in my own flock. When I go to shows, I see the same thing in MAY black-based birds with color accents, and am beginning to wonder if it's just a normal occurence? I spoke with a judge at the Ohio Nationals last year, and when I asked him if I should be worried about it, he said yes, you should be very worried. And it's entirely possible that it's a completely different thing. So, just wondering what you can tell me about it.
Not really. When we got her, she was supposedly 13 weeks old. No eggs so I am sure she is young. Either that or really old. But she is quite lean. Are you absolutely certain of her age?
I ask because if they told you the incorrect age, it could be a black sex link rooster. Not really. When we got her, she was supposedly 13 weeks old. No eggs so I am sure she is young. Either that or really old. But she is quite lean.
