Plymouth Rock thread!

Getting type improvement is best if it comes from the hen. I know that is an old fashioned view, but it's one I hold to firmly.

You can always eat your mistakes. But, I do not believe this effort was a mistake. If it "sticks" and you make a bunch of awesome Columbian Rocks because of this in two more gens, you're gonna be admired for taking this risk. Sometimes, you just have to try stuff.
Yeah you do or can, not a thing wrong with that either, but you got to hold over some of the original stuff too and not mix up the whole batch, It's sorta like making sourdough bread.

Or crop :)

I do a lot of cropping.

Scott, I've done it here for DMRippy (and you)
People may be able to see her quality better like this. I think she is beautiful. I don't know much about this variety, but what is it you see wrong with her colour? Looks good to me.
I thought I was looking at my light brahma, then I see no feathers on the legs...the same coloring...so beautiful!

Well, what do ya'll think, pullet or cockerel?? I bought him/her as a 'pullet' but I'm not so sure anymore.. she/he is extremely aggressive and vocal for being 16 weeks, but is not crowing. I just don't know anymore.

This is a backup roo I have and i wanted opinions of his tail. I think much better than dads
Is this one of your blue barreds? I generally don't go for the barred pattern in chickens, but he's a good looking boy!
he is not blue lol. just a reg barred rock color from my blue barred girls and the good Shepard BR roo I think I like him too. his barring is very different from his sire. not terrible....just different. I don't keep blue barred roos. I only keep blue barred pullets. I don't want splash barred rocks really.

He's barred(V-eed) like Dominique males. I have a male that was like that from the get go but he is more white mostly every where now, he is an older one at 5 he is a Ideal hatchery product. Made for great layers, he sired

I can't get a good read on his tail in this pic. to really say too much on

I just don't know anymore. I have Barred Rocks and my two youngest are the most aggressive & vocal of the flock, so you can't go by temperments, necessarily. I guess "pullet", simply because I have a 50% chance of being correct...and I'm hoping she's a pullet.

(And had I not KNOWN my girls were pullets, their rooster-like fighting would've really worried me. I wish I'd gotten video!! THAT was something to see...neck feathers standing on end, body feathers all puffed out, stalking, bobbing, weaving, flash of spurs and claws, snapping beaks, wing slapping, chest butting little "Bruce Lee" crackhead wannabe's. Short-lived phase, no damage done, but crazy!! My older girls NEVER acted that way as pullets, or ever!)
