Plymouth Rock thread!

thank you, my issue is I am in a woods n want a roo for protection n brooding but I don't want to risk him being mean to the EEs. my Jersey girls rule roost n i figure male jersey would possibly be too rough on nicer birds I have.
Any rooster is going to go through a very horny stage.. Does not matter.. There is the very rare one that doesn't (I've only ever had one like that!) - but they only want one thing in their first year...

They make great protectors. Does not matter the breed of the hens involved. I have EEs as well, and my boys are very good with them.

I havea 20 yr. old son so I know what u mean, lol. I just bit protective of EEs one very timid. I hope to get chicks ordered in Jan n researching like crazy

What a stunning picture!!!!

Any of you old timers know how to cut a roosters spurs ? I got a Del that has really long spurs and has trouble walking. Must be a good six inches. I just want to trim them down some.

I have a question about my Plymouth Barred Rock hen. I just want to see if anyone else has had an issue like this with this breed.

About three weeks ago, one of my two Plymouth Barred Rock hens started acting like a rooster. She then began attacking all of my other hens, including her full-sister. She pulled a lot of their feathers out. THEN, she challenged my rooster! He ignored her, of course, but it totally baffled me! I then placed her with another hen that I have to keep seperate, and they seemed to get along. For a full two days, that is. Then she started pulling feathers out of that hen. So I put her in a pen by herself. Then, out of the blue, she started laying eggs! Now, she hadn't laid one single egg in over a month. Any idea as to what is going on???
