Plymouth Rock thread!

Hi All, I first want to say I still have the Horstman cockerel and will be breeding him to a few Padgett pullets this year and this will be breeding pen #1. I will also have a Padgett cockerel over Padgett pullets and this will be breeding pen #2. As for the Horstman pullets they are in the hands of my brother and I am very happy in that he also is very interested in the Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks and will be joining me in the breeding of the Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks. He will have a Padgett cockerel over the Horstman pullets and this will be breeding pen #3. His house is only 3 miles from mine and he is just as crazy about the Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks as I am so the upcoming years will definitely be fun. :)

The two pictures below are my 10 month old Horstman cockerel over three Padgett pullets that are 5 months old. " breeding pen #1".

Hi. This is my first time raising chicks... My BR has the funnest personality out of all so far....Her name is Maude... She seems obsessed with the feeder, she will leave to take a snooze but then goes right back to it... She digs a whole in the pine shavings while she's eating.... I just got her yesterday, not sure if it's stress or she just likes to eat!! Anyone else ever had a BR or any other kind to not leave the feeder?

Maybe she is not used to having food available all the time. It isn't neccassarily a breed trait, but that individual chicken. If I put feed in the feeder my white rocks run over to take at least one bite, you know because it tastes so much different than what they got yesterday, but some of my others do that too. Is she skinny? The reason she is probably digging a hole in the pine shaving while she is eating, is likely because a lot of chickens try to scratch while they eat, as if the food was tossed on the ground.

She's not skinny, she is small but she's only about 4/5 days old... She is the funniest one of all, fiesty... She just stays at the feeder for long periods of time, where all the others Wil eat and move on.... She doesn't seem to be in any distress, I was just curious as to why she stays at feeder so much....

Oh, I was assuming she was an adult. I don't know, maybe that is just her hang out lol

I have probably one of the most bizarre Barred Rock mutts ever. I hatched him in November. His dad is a R.I.R. feed store roo, and his mother is a Barred Rock hen. He has some curled toed problem, long gigantic legs, and green tail feathers. Unfortunately, he'll be re-homing soon, since my dad doesn't want to feed two extra roosters. (his cousin is here too: a Amerucana/R.I.R. mix)

That cross makes black sex links. The roos are barred (head spot) at hatch. Very common cross.
