Lovely, as always, Silver Rock! You make me want some :drool

Thank you BlackPanther for the nice words and I would definitely like to see more breeders of the Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks close by. I want to check the fertility in my breeder males so in the next couple months I will be running my incubator 24/7. I already have a few "one on the TN/Al state line, one in Nashville TN, and the other in Corinth Mississippi" that I will be setting up with chicks over the next couple months. If you would be interested in some chicks come late Spring they are yours to have. My goal is to get a close ring of SPR breeders around me so we can work together to move the Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks forward. :)

I'd love to, but I can't! I'm working on my Blue Plymouth Rocks! I already broke down and brought home a couple partridge PR *facepalm*

But someday in the future, I may have some!

I wish you the best of luck in engineering their spread!

Hi BlackPanther, I do understand as I also only want one variety to tackle at this time. I will be breeding the Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks for many years to come so if at some point in the future you decide to get into the SPR's I will definitely have some ready for you. :)

Where did you get the Blue Rocks form? and the Partridge? I have those too.....

My Pullet/Hen (very close are already a year old) layed her first egg today. Well the first egg I have ever got from her. She may Have been laying before I got her, but I didn't ask. Now if the other two would follow suit, I would be one really happy camper.

Congratulations:) What is the average age for BR to start laying?

Take away the differentials such as spring chick vs fall chick, hours of daylight at time of maturity, etc.

A typical hatchery Barred Rock may start laying as soon as 24 weeks. A "heritage" line of bred to Standard Barred Rock may very well not begin laying until 36 weeks or even a bit longer, depending on strain.

Thank you. I still get pretty happy about new egg layers. Never really wears off for me. Look at Fred's Hens post above

Yes, I did see his post. I'm on edge waiting for our first egg and we still have several weeks to go. I was worried I might have to wait a year, lol.
