Plymouth Rock thread!

Well I had to seperate one of my SPPR hens she got attacked by something the other night and it tore up her back, I am wondering if it was another possum. We usually have out Great Pyrenees in the field behind there coop but the kids left him in the front yard on a lead(he is still in training and likes to play with the chickens a little to much) and that was the night we had the problem. The neighbor has an old half broken down garage that is next to my fence that possums love to live in and Hercules keeps running over there and barking. Anyways I don't think she will anke it so that will leave me a trio. Dang predators.
i have had a few bad experience of possums attacking my chickens i've also had a lot weasels getting mine to are you sure they are possums or weasels.

I just started raising chickens and got my first Barr plymouth's this week. The suspense is killing me, I have no idea what sex they are and I've heard a lot about coloring and head spots, but I just can't tell yet. I am very excited though! I do hope that I have at least two hens though. Can anyone explain it to me? Or will I just have to wait.

I am not real good at this but I say according to the white spots you have half boys and half girls.
My guess

That wouldn't be too bad. I only have one large coop, so I can't really have a bunch of boys ruling the roost. If I had three hens, I would be a happy camper. Their wing feathers are coming in, three seem to have nearly jet black with little to no barring. Interestingly enough, the same three lack a white teardrop-like marking by their eyes. Thank you for your guess! I appreciate it.

Has anybody read the ramblings from the editor in the quarterly newsletter? I thought it was great! Funny and so true. I don't know how many people I know that think raising chickens is outrageous

Getting about 3 or 4 eggs a week from my white rock hen. The eggs are fertile too! I am eager to set some eggs, but hoping that soon some of my others start laying or wen some if another breed I have so that I am not just setting 4 eggs
