Plymouth Rock thread!

Pics
I have a few different rocks. I have a partridge rock rooster and three hens. I have a buff rock hen too, though I used to have more. my buff is my broody hen.

Question about colors: Is there a "red" rock?

My roo and the buff rock seem to have made two red hens. They are the most beautiful chickens I have ever seen. They are much darker than the buff, but with no real markings and lighter than the partridge. Their legs are yellow yellow yellow. They have the big bouncy fat bottomed bodies of their mother and these sweet little heads. Its hard to describe how very sweet their faces are. I dont know why they are so pretty to me... They are wild as march hares and wont let me near them.

A red rock? Has anyone seen this result? I will try and get pictures tomorrow.

No there are no Red Rocks that are acknowledged. But some breeders have bred them and them let them go since red birds are way to comon as is and a red rock would not be all that. There was a thread on the Plymouth Rock club forum about this.

For those interested in breeding the Plymouth Rock chickens. The club forum has moved. Please PM for a link to the new location. You can find the club website at crohio.com/rockclub. It is only $15.00 to join for the year. Well, worth it if you are serious into breeding this bred of chicken.

Had a friend with 3 girls and no man around, so unfortunately, our alpha male BR rooster had to go. I think he will be happy as a clam with those hens though. I've heard he's doing great over there.
Very good looking rooster, but oh well:

Yard full o' rocks :

Ok....I've culled down to my best 3 Columbian Rock cockerels and my best 3 barred rock cockerels to breed from next year.

Col Rocks are about 23 weeks old and BRs are about 16 weeks old

What y'all think???

I would have loved to see the birds that didn't make the cut. Personally for the Columbian males, I like the second male the best for type. In the pictures all had comparable color. Make sure to watch the color on the wings. For the barreds, I liked them all, but I didn't have a favorite. I don't cull for my breeders until they are 9 months or older as things change so much. I will say as well, on the feathers make sure they all end with the black bar. It is a serious defect if they end in a white bar or if the black is 'frosted' with white.
