First, Bob - thanks for your note last night. I'll reply off the forum in a bit.
DieFly has my line and some from another breeder. She got them from Cohen. Walt has seen them all - he might be a good one to weigh in as an APA judge regarding the differences in the lines that he saw.
I'd love to work with you next year! If you're interested, PM me for details on my future plans with them.
I'm quite sure these SPR will not even be close to being able to ever compete with the Whites, Barred, and other varieties doing well now for many, may years. But they're a lovely breed, and I just can't fathom losing them, so on I go with them!
We are just starting and really love ours I have a older pair well not that old only 2 year on the hen and a little over a year on the Rooster. We have now acquired birds from Die Fly that are showing promise and are at the POL. So we are super excited to be working with them. I plan on running to or three breeding pens.

YES, can you believe it? They went to Honolulu; I reached out to the handfull of Honolulu BYC-ers to see if anyone was interested in the eggs, knowing they'd likely be worthless if shipped back, but no one over there wanted them, so they came back to the states.I'm not quite sure I understand. TO Hawaii and then BACK ??
SR, Dick has been working on SPR for years - I have a great amount of respect for the man. I've spoken with him in person a number of times at poultry shows; he very rarely shows, now mostly just sells. Dick has a TON of breeds. It must be challenging to have as many as he does and do them all well. I saw & spoke with him last in Newnan, GA in February (he was selling several pairs/trios, and did have a trio of silver penciled there). I think Bob may have spoken with him & seen the SPR he had there as well, though I'm not sure on that. (I did let Bob know when I spoke with him that Dick was there.) Dick also breed Partridge Rock, and that's what he's used to breed into his silver penciled to improve type. Nothing wrong with that, IMO. But...the birds end up smutty. That's not to say my line isn't smutty, I have my share of that going on. But I feel it's "less" of a problem with mine, and one fo the things I don't want to compromise on. My birds have good type; but they are small. I should definitely weigh them, I guess I haven't in the 7+ years that I've had them because I KNOW they are small and I haven't even felt close to ready to show them, so it didn't much matter to me.Hi Bob
I just want to get a better understanding on your opinion of the Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock strains of today. Can you please tell me why you say Wynnettes strain is the only good strain. It is hard for me to understand when you say her strain of Silver Penciled Rocks is lacking type as in size but they are the only good strain. I am sure I am missing something and you have your reason for your opinion. I plan to be breeding the Dick Horstman strain over the next many years and want to know in your opinion is it a waste of time to continue to breed this strain of Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks.
