Plymouth Rock thread!

every bird is different and every strain. hatchery birds would lay sooner than heritage. my rocks are usually the first in the pens to lay before Marans and Ameraucanas. you should get eggs soon.

I am still waiting on eggs my SPPR are about 9 months old and no eggs! I know breeder birds take longer and my Brahmas always take forever but I guess I am just inpatient.

Thanks, another question I have a 2 year old hen who quit laying at the first of summer and now has molted but still no eggs for about 3 months. She did look a little unhealthy for a while but seems fine for a while now.

Hi TNBEARCHICK
Are your pullets bright/dark red in the face and are they singing the song a pullet does when she comes of age to start laying. If the answer is yes I would look for signs of broken egg shells. You may have a snake, rat or the pullets themselves eating the egg before you have a chance to gather them.

My Partridge Plymouth Rock hen is such a consistent layer, but holy guacamole is that girl "talkative"! We live in the 'burbs and I can't have her complaining loudly to the other hens in the middle of the day, so sometimes she has to come in the house to get her feathers unruffled a bit before she can go rejoin the flock. Her all-out rants aren't an every day thing, but when they happen, she's not easily quieted!

LOL. Don't you wonder what she is complaining about. I wonder what gets her feathers so ruffled!

They are red but they may not be all the way dark we check for eggs twice a day most days. I just think they are being sluggish about laying but its all of them.
