Cher....what did you do to the boy?

This is Shadow, my BIG blue rock roo from Halo and he's a sweetheart. Never causes me any grief, takes care of the girls. His crow still leaves a bit to be desired (he has the tune, but the TONE is horrible) and if I could just start getting some better than pullet sized eggs, I'm gonna incubate a bunch and see what kind of youngin's he's gonna throw

Here is a question. How many rocks in one show? I know the local shows I have been too even seeing one of the two common colors barred or white is rare here. What I did see was bantam also so tell us also from bantam to LG. I am wondering if attendance is better in other places for Plymouth Rocks for the rare colors or even the common ones.

I am not a show goer so I cannot answer it directly from experience. However, in the production side of it, I know that Barred Rocks are very popular in my area. In fact, most people you speak to have some in their coops now and rave about their ability to lay eggs. So maybe,,,,,and this is just a thought from my view point.... they are used more as a production bird in popularity than in the popularity of showing. I know I have had a hard time finding show quality partridge because they are bred so 'high bred' so to speak that their laying abilities are greatly affected. So maybe barred and white will be the only things you see out there? Just some thoughts. Maybe nothing you wanted to have as an answer.

Awsome chickens Ducktang.

You know something that i have notice over the past 20 years. The barring on Barred Rocks has changed a bit in preferance for showing. It used to be bigger barring and now it is narrow barring. Interesting how things change with a breed like that over time.

Holy Smokes Batman....my BBS and barred rock girls think its Springtime.

Temps not above 32F here today (been 20s or below at night for about 2 weeks). I have

12 pullets (started laying about 2 weeks ago)
2 hens

So far today, 10 eggs!!!!

Got NOTHING so far from my "grown up girls" pen today which is Delawares, Buff Orps and a SLW x Col Rock (slackers!!!)
