Plymouth Rock thread!

Hello. Im new to this thread. Currently i have RIR hens. But i put 18 Barred rock eggs in the incubator 2 days ago. I cant wait

Since you all have experience with the Plymouth Rocks, how do your rocks lay compared to other breeds?

Hennypen those are beautiful birds keep them and breed some more i myself would love to have eggs or chicks this spring!!!

Oh I know what they are.

they came from Wynette and hatched in May '10.

I want to try and make it work at home. My husband doesn't see them as sppr's he sees them as chickens who try and attack our son. Lol. But we haven't made any effort to move them out of the barn yard yet.

but don't worry, I'll make sure that if I do sell, they'll go to someone who appreciates them. They are gorgeous birds.

I think you should keep them and breed them...there's a just a handful of us SPPR breeders (or sppr breeder wannabees like me - only have 2 hens a by next week a roo so far)

Hennypen - goodness, I'm so sorry you're having aggresisson issues! I've never had one that was aggressive; in fact, to the contrary - while mine aren't "lap chickens," the roos have never been a problem. I can easily pick up one of the girls without him getting the least bit agitated. If you want to keep them, try giving them free range time. Sometimes, a bit more time out side the pen is all it takes to calm them. Best of luck in whatever you decide!

Ditto! Let's do some egg swappin', Scott! My girls are not laying, and likely won't begin until March (I do not use lights on them), but after then - give me a holler!​

Your SPPR are not laying :O mine have been laying for a bit. i would say for 6 weeks (i have had them for that long) they range from jan. Hatches to march hatches

I have 2 groups now. A group from a breeder in Ohio and a trio from Canada....I'll try to get you mostly those from the Canadian bunch. VERY nice type and size. Will probably put the Canadian roo over the best 2 pullets from the Ohio strain just to have a secondary bloodline as well.

Off to the huntin' club with #1 son and the pastor's son.....be back Wednesday
