All pullets and cockerels have the tiny bumps on their legs, of all breeds. Not sure what you mean by four of them-would have to see a picture of that, but cockerels don't even get spurs until they are well over 7-8 months of age.

Okay. Petrie has two big bumps on her legs (little spurs), now she's getting two smaller ones just slightly above. Here's a pic I drew in paint:

Sorry, but I'd need to see an actual photo of it to be 100% sure what you mean. Sometimes, the "encasement" around the spur bump can almost look like another spur bump. Anyway, cockerels do not get spurs at two months old, so you have nothing to worry about there. Barred Rocks can be sexed right at hatch, certainly months and months earlier than a male would get spurs.

I was wondering the same thing. I'll try to get a photo as well. A lot of mine have this but they've gone away the older they've gotten.

Here are my girls. Top left is Tweety, then Astrid, BR in back is Pattie and the Frizzle is Cinnamon. Astrid is such a sweetie and will circle me until I pick her up. She likes to lay her head down on my chest and go to sleep. lol Pattie is still a mean little turd but we love her just the same. She goes after my finger tips all the time. I'm hoping Tweety doesn't learn from her. lol They ate all the grass in their run so as soon as I open the door they stick their heads out to grab some grass.

i know this is a bit OT, but I just wanted to put it here. Funny, Cyn, there was this guy up here advertising on CL that Barred Rocks were sexable at birth with 90+ % accuracy. I felt like emailing him and telling him he was advertising false info.
Then I saw that you had weighed in on this in his favor.............So i just googled on it and found........THIS.

I think--in very truth--I am gonna switch to barred rocks for this very reason.

Well from what I was told when I got mine that's how they were sexed and thankfully they are all pullets. I wasn't holding my breath though, just hoping. LOL I'm still confused as to how exactly the Partridge rock was sexed since they don't look the same as chicks. lol

jmc, I've raised BRs for years and it's very rare that I get one wrong. Sexing is more an art than a science, since sometimes, a chick can have a male trait mixed with a female trait, but I can usually figure them out. They are, indeed, sexable at hatch, to about a 90% accuracy, just as soon as they are completely fluffed out.
