Here are my 2. One of them has only one leg.

How does your bird get around with one leg. Was it hatched out that way or lost the leg somehow? I just culled a bird recently because it had a bad leg. I have often wondered if I had it amputated how it would have survived with one leg. Just curious.

She gets around realy good. She can hop on it and flys when she needs to move faster. She likes to get treats and run from the others. She broke it when she was about 5 weeks old and I could not fix it. So I did the next best thing in my eyes. I dont know if its was the best but she is in good heath and is realy loving.

Currently I have 12 barred rocks of varrying ages. My youngest 4 are just 3 weeks old. Having a hard time deciding which rooster to keep. Any help?

Rooster # 3 I would not choose #3. I find his barring messy. Which one? The second guy is feathering in a lot slower, which could be a good thing right? They are 14 weeks old.

Sweet picture. My Barreds are now almost 5 months old. Seems like yesterday those little peeps showed up. Now they are starting to lay eggs and wow, they are great!

Funny close-up picture of almost 20 week old Dru, a Stukel line BR pullet-won't expect eggs from her for another two months.



Below, one of the 5 1/2 year old Barred Rocks, Amanda, who has something seriously amiss in her hip joint and spends most of every day laying down, guarded by our Buff Brahma head hen. Amanda and same age sister, Becca, are out of McMurray parents owned by a friend and Amanda is a very hefty hen, one of my largest. She was laying up until about a month ago when her leg issue became worse. Becca is still laying about 4 eggs per week. Amanda is showing her age in her face, isn't she?



Fern, who is going on 4 years old and my best layer, still laying 6-7 eggs each week when not in molt. She molts fast and is back in production in about two weeks. Her mother was one of my original Ideal BRs, Ivy. I thought Barbara in the pic below Fern's was her daughter, but Barbara looks more like the McMurray Rocks, with the big wattles and wonky, wavy combs, so not sure about that. Fern is not liked by my Delaware rooster, Isaac. Her eggs are never fertile and he chases her out of the coop on a regular basis-very particular rooster only likes the Stukel BR ladies, LOL. What can I say? He has excellent taste!

Barbara and Becca, paying the rent. Barbara is very small bodied with a wonky comb, but she lays HUGE eggs.




My blue and splash Rocks are wonderful layers as well, but they are molting so not in the nests quite as often right now, though bad girl Gloria Jean laid an egg under the roost yesterday. Thought she was just dustbathing under there.

The Rocks have wonderful temperments and they lay very well too.

My BR just started molting maybe two weeks ago, and started laying eggs again just yesterday. Her name is Snap and I agree with wekiva bird they do have wonderful temperments.
