Plz ease my mind...worried about my flock!!

I've experienced those temps although not with chickens. I totally agree with the heat lamp idea as long as it is well secured. Maybe add another one as well. If it got that low here I have an idea my chickens would end up in the garage for the night.

I can't do that, my barn used to be a 2.5 car garage ahahahahaha we never used it because they built it on the other side of the septic lines, dummies!!!! so for a while it was being used as a dump storage, then I cleaned it all out and began deconstruction and told Dh it would make an awesome barn, and so it did. but I was surprised that even for a garage it had 0 insulation?? and the cement ground was poured after the garage was built and completely wrong so that took some time to take out!!

I only have one heat lamp, its hard to find them up here, we only have this one cause we used to have a reptile, he passed away a couple years ago of old age and we kept his equipment.

I think with the heat lamp they will be fine :-D so I hope

We've gotten down to -18 before and the chickens were just fine. It is warmer inside the building as long as it's not drafty. I wouldn't worry too much. Maybe build them a little straw house with bales and put a tarp over it to keep their body heat in. Heat lamps won't do much for anything except what's right under the lamp. The heat just doesn't radiate that far in a large open area.
