We got chickens and ducks this past spring. We raised them altogether. We didn't get the first Rooster in the whole lot. We got one male duck. Well my question is. Why is my male duck trying too mate with my hens? He tries too my female duck, but it's like he's not smart enough. It's so funny to watch. He chases my hens every where, trying like crazy too male with them! So why??

Welcome to BYC --While you may find it amusing to watch, a male duck mating a female chicken is actually a very unfortunate situation and one with the potential for serious injury to the pullet/hen involved. The "why" is simply that he is male and they are female, species is not even something he is going to stop to consider as he is a young male in the grips of incredibly strong hormonal influence.

It's not good to have a male duck breed with a hen and it can turn out fatally for the hen. It would be best to separate them.

Glad you joined!

Drakes breed internally. Roosters do not. Drakes can seriously injure or kill hens trying to breed them. This fact not fiction. If you don't plan to separate ducks & hens, at least please rehome the drake.
