< ~ Poem Thread! ~ >

This was written after the unexpected passing of my grandson. He was 2 1/2.

The Butterfly

A butterfly flew into my garden.
I welcomed him that day.
In spite of life’s capricious ways
I hoped that he would stay.

A butterfly drifted into view
Bringing peace with his gentle way.
Flitting about me from flower to flower,
“Life's good,” he seemed to say.

A butterfly flew past and stirred the air
Brought gentle music to my soul
With whisper-soft winged songs of love
Despite life’s weary toll.

A butterfly skimmed on the breeze
Brought beauty to my skies.
In the garden I’d tended with loving care,
He paused with laughter in untroubled eyes.

A butterfly soared with serene joy.
Love brought me, taught me, shared
A moment with his perfect self
For time adrift on sunshined air.

A butterfly perched on my cheek
Brought hope that he would stay.
But with a gentle breathless kiss
Too soon he flew away.

With far too short a time to play,
With far too short a time to sing,
With far too short a time to share,
That perfect spirit flew away.

ray's two cents :

A topic I'm passionate about?

Welcome to Australia, the s--- has hit the fan
The economy's gone triple speed; Gillard can't sort a ban. . . . .

. . . . . . . We really need a laugh in this economic gloom...
How about we plant Gillard down onto the Ribs of Doom?!

Different names and strange sounding places but the topic sounds very American. It seems we have the same problems wherever we live.

A Poem about my dream last night:

I woke up on one morning,
Headed for the Bay,
When a Monster thing,
Headed my way,

The Cabin was taken,
Along with many others,
when a Mammoth came,
With Possums for brothers!

I went to the land far off,
I think its name was Oz,
And my little dog was in danger,
And so i Was,

A Movie was taken,
Along with with a few rounds,
And I got my puppy back,
And waddled to the clouds,

At first i faced a A 2D Fish,
then i mighty Wolf,
And then it ask me what i wished,
And i was filled with Awe,

I Went to a home,
Filled with despret people,
The place was called " Blanket Homes"
And was the size of a steeple,

I Talked to them about my problem,
and they thought so,
And it turned out what i wished,
Was to give them Show,

I Went back to Wolves,
And The 2D Fish,
And i went up to him,
To tell him what i wish,

I Wished for the good of Earth,
And Blanket Homes place,
and who did, yes the wolf,
Stared off to Space,

He Said " Well done,
You get you Command,
But us Pack need a thing to EAT,
So you Beast, Stand! "

I Ran away, to the Beach,
When a tidel wave came through,
And yes i lived to tell the tell,
And type it back to you.

My dream was a weird mix of : Tidel Waves, Charlie Brown, Ice Age, The flight before Christmas, And Barbie Mermidia.

There are many more details that i can not make rhymes for

Made me laugh at least. I think it's the stupidest poems that are sometimes the best.

It looks like it! Australian markets have pretty much followed the American and European ones down and out to the boons.

I loved your butterfly poem, by the way. Very touching.

Like Picasso, another one from my BLUE period.

REMEMBERING YOU
Crying for you -- it’s what I do. . .
Crying for you, crying for you.
You're suddenly gone, what else can I do
But lie here crying for you.

Life is a gift, love is a treasure.
I always thought we'd have forever,
But now you’re gone,
And I’m left alone,
I lie here crying for you.

Missing you -- it’s what I do. . .
Missing you, missing you.
Since you’ve gone, not much to do
But lie here missing you.

Life is a gift, love is a treasure.
I always thought we'd have forever,
But now you’re gone,
And I’m left alone
To lie here missing you.

Remembering you -- it’s what I do...
Remembering you, remembering you.
The way you laughed. The things you’d do.
I lie here remembering you.

Life is a gift, love is a treasure.
I always thought we'd have forever,
But now you’re gone,
And I’m left alone,
I lie here remembering you.

I’m missing you --
And crying too.
Until we’re together again, it’s what I do,
And always remembering you.

Life is a gift, love is a treasure.
I always thought we'd have forever.,
But now you’re gone,
And I’m left alone,
I lie here remembering you.
Always remembering you.

Eleven years later and still a teary eyed Linnae

Star's Maker

Aren't the stars Lovely,
At this time of night,
Aren't the stars Lovely,
To your delight,

Aren't the stars Lovely,
They Point my way,
Aren't the stars Lovely,
They Hide in the Day,

Aren't the stars Lovely,
Making Peace on Earth,
Aren't the stars Lovely,
Just for Christ's Birth,

Aren't the stars Lovely,
You Wise Men,
Aren't the stars Lovely,
I'll Say it Again,

Aren't the stars Lovely,
Made By Your True King,
Aren't the stars Lovely,
The Angels Must Sing,

Aren't the stars Lovely,
Against All odds,
Always point the way,
To the One,True God

A Poem about God Telling the Wise Men To follow the star of David to Bethlehem.

One of my "hobbies" is building houses with a group of women for Habitat for Humanity. Here is a poem I wrote for a co-builder, friend, and new owner of a HFH house the day she got the keys to her new home.

Welcome Home, Lori

It’s more than just a building
‘Tho building we have done.
It’s more than simply labor’s gift
With learning, laughter, fun.

It’s more than concrete, lumber,
Lights, vinyl, glass and nails
More than drywall dust and plaster,
Shingles, wire, or paint in pails.

It’s more than any one of us,
Greater even than us all.
There’s warmth and love and caring
Build soundly in each wall.

Joined for this undertaking
We’ll soon depart alone
Knowing we can build a house
That you can make a home.
