Had a call recently for a man running a cockerel fighting ring in his back yard. When I showed up, he had chickens (illegal unless you own 3 acres or more) and only a half acre. Only problem with the whole cockerel fighting thing was he had only 4 buff hens and a mutt hen (EE) he said just showed up one day. I asked if he had any cockerels and he said that he did not and wouldn't because of the noise.
I informed him he needed more than 3 acres to have hens and he said he did not know. I told him that not to buy anymore birds. When these died, not to get any more. He said he understood and thanked me. He asked if I knew how old hen chickens lived to be and I told him 30 to 40 years and winked.
Now if code enforcement goes out there, things might be different but as for me, I think I handled it nicely.
