Hi everyone! I'm new here and was after a little advice.
We recently went to a poultry auction and brought a polish bantam rooster. It was a spur of the moment thing but we have really fallen in love with him. We have now gotten him 3 polish hens and they all seem to get along really well. I've been doing a little reading up on the breed and have found that they are a non-sitting breed. I know silkies go broody easily, should we look for a silkie hen to sit on the polish eggs?
Thanks for all your help.

:welcome! You're right, polish aren't really all that broody. A silkie would be great for hatching out eggs, and as a bonus, you could easily tell her eggs apart from the others, so if you didn't want mixed breeds that would be easily avoidable. Just make sure you quarantine her before introducing her to your flock if you do get one.

Every silkie hen won't go broody but, most of them will. A lot of people buy them just for that reason. Some even call them a silkie-bator- they do all the work, without thermometers or hydrometers. They are very nice birds on top of that. Usually a big favorite with kids.

Thanks for your help! I'll look into a silkie then. Are they good mums too? What do you think chicks would look like if she sat on her own eggs as well?
And just another question, one of the polish hens has quite a large head of feathers, I read that you can tie them up like a pony tail, or is it better to just trim them? So she can see better?
