Polish chickens mop

My polish is having trouble with her crest its muddy and wet when it rains (like today) winter is comming so I need to trim it,she is my only white crested black polish and she lives with my silkies so none will pick on her.I need to know how much I can cut off with the scissors and if I cut to short will her feathers bleed?Any one have a picture of what they look like after a cut that would help me to know how much I can cut

You can cut the feathers as short as you want to. Blood feathers, the ones that will bleed, are very different from normal ones. Those have a thick shaft that you will be able to tell easily have blood in them. They are obviously new feathers that do not have feathery stuff coming out the sides but are almost nothing but a dark "straw" with maybe a bit of normal looking feather close to the top. If in doubt, just don't clip that one. Be careful not to poke her in the eye or something while you're trimming. They can be pretty wiggly.

Edit to Add: If you do accidentally clip one that bleeds, pull it out quick with a pair of pliers. That will stop the bleeding. Have some flour or corn starch close by also to sprinkle on it to stop bleeding.
