Are polish chickens any good for eggs or are they really just for looking at?

They are really cute but if they aren't good layers then I think I might have to skip.

Granny knows her Polish! I don't keep them so I can't tell you much. But there are lots of threads here on the Polish breed. You can even check our breeds page to see what other members are saying about this breed...

Great to have you aboard and enjoy BYC!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Polish really seem to vary in how well they lay, some are pretty good (4-5 eggs a week when young), but some aren't very good, ime the hatchery ones are usually decent since they have been more bred for it.

We have two that are not from hatchery stock, and neither is a good layer. They lay 2-3 eggs per week that are medium sized. They get along great in our mixed flock, and one is even our lead hen. Ours also go broody......... Guess they didn't read the right book
