I sooooo wish we could get more chickens.....a little easier to get over the loss that way. We would love baby chicks...we got ours as juveniles. Unfortunately we only have one coop and run. We can't free range them unless we are willing to lose them daily to hawks as we have some very aggressive hawks that continuously dive bomb the run, our house, and our yard. Last year when I traded my farmer friend a rooster for a couple of hens (we have neighbors who would be less than thrilled to hear a rooster crow everyday), we had fights for 3 days before things settled down, and the couple of times we've actually been able to nurse our girls back to health, reintroducing them even after two days was tough. We have some strong personalities out there.
I told my husband I wanted another coop...will have to work on him. He says no way!
