I'm thinking of getting 3-4 polish cresteds, one to be a rooster. Could anyone share with me what they think of this breed, are they tame or noisey? I currently have a 4 year old Plymouth barred rock, a Black Australop and a Rhode Island Red, all hens. I like all of their personaliteis and are very good with the kids. Thanks for any input!

In my experience with the breed, I found them to be very noisy and very flighty. My WCBP was very skittish and EXTREMELY loud (he would crow his head off for hours) and was docile if I could ever actually catch him, but I have read other people's accounts of the roosters being overly agressive. So I suppose it just depends on the bird. My neighbor had some WCBP hens whom I took care of for a while, and I couldn't catch them to save my life. Overall, I didn't like the breed tremendously, and I wouldn't raise them again, but, again, some people say that their polish are very docile and friendly, so you may just have to try them out for yourself.

I have a WCB standard roo and a WCB hen and a Silver laced hen.
i also have 6 eggs waiting to hatch on March 8
i love these chickens!!!

my experience is that they do not do well free range because of their limited vision because of their head feathers. it also contributes to their flightiness. i also have Silkies who are really friendly and laidback. my polish are friendly. i don't think they are any more or less noisy than any other chicken
i hope you decide to give them a try. are you looking for standard or bantam?

Well, I guess I'll have to just give it a try since I couldn't help myself and bought 4 today...I have spring fever. Thanks for the info and the pics, I can't wait to see how these turn out

Oh, and I just got the standard since we will be adding them to the flock.

Be careful when adding to the flock. These birds can go either way when cooped with non-crested birds. Oftentimes, they are the non-cresteds 'play-things' and are seen as fun to pick on and pluck the living daylights (feathers) out of. My flock has had issues like this several times, but after careful consideration and changes made, we've got everything under control now. Beforehand, there was peace between my birds for 3 years. Not sure why it started up all of a sudden.

My Polish are very friendly and many will come when called.

I've never had roosters, just hens, but my hens are only noisy when they are hungry or bored.

I have three Golden laced polish. One rooster and two hens. I really enjoy them. They are startled easily since they can't see all that well and mine do better with the run covered to prevent their heads from getting wet. When they get wet all kinds of food and dirt get stuck in their crests. I will always have some polish they are such fun. The rooster is young and hasn't crowed yet but he is the first to come running if I walk outside. He is rather vocal too. I bought some sex link chickens and put them in with them and the sex links promptly beat the polish up so they had to go. They are now in with a cuckoo marans hen, a barred rock hen and a little banty hen. They all do well together. I am adding 4 silkies as soon as they get big enough. Hopefully they will be nice.

I'm hoping that my hens will take the new ones in without a problem. I have a 4 year old Barred Rock a Production red and a black sex link-both just under a year. They are all very sweet and quiet, only squwaking when the see me in hopes of treats

They don't seem to have much of a pecking order like I've seen in my flock before.

Bub, I have Polish, and I like the roo a lot cause he does not crow loud at all. Actually its more of a hoarse crow. He is great with my foster kids and i am looking for some wives for him. I had about 8 shipped eggs but he was the only one that hatched. So I'm definitely trying for more. He is also very friendly. I did handle him some as a chick, but most of the time I was busy with the kids.
