So long story short, we had a rooster that showed up at our house at 1:00 a.m. one morning. He decided that he was going to adopt our family and never left our yard, so we caved in and bought him a coop and 4 female (hopefully!) friends. We were told they were hatched in July so they're roughly 3 months old.

I've read online different ways to tell if a Polish chicken is male or female but I'm kind of confused because different people say different things.

Would anyone be willing to make a guess as to what gender these lovely chickens are? It would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

Also, please don't mind Karen and her dirty/muddy crest. I don't know what she did but she's the only one that's gotten that bad after the rain we had. I'm planning to wash her crest this weekend, I promise!

What makes you say that one is a cockerel? I see no signs. The other I circled has wing patches and what I believe to be pointed feathers
That one is the only one that looks to be already forming pointy saddle feathers. I'm no expert, honestly, it's just what it looks like to me. Plus he has a very untidy head feathers.

With laced Polish varieties females very, very frequently have crazy crests. I would not use that for sexing. This can *sometimes* be used on the solid varieties *if* they're from decent lines. It worked on my White Crested Black but doesn't work on hatchery lines. I see only one possible cockerel :)

Definitely why I *attempted* to stress the *usually* lol. I'm no pro as I've only been around two Polish hens myself, although they have prim and tidy hairdos.

I see saddle feathers and maybe hackles- can't quite tell, and of course photos of the crest would help as well
For this variety sex feathers would be a brighter color. It has no pointed feathers yet! Note the huge color difference between sexes. This is evident in this bird but none of the others :)
